Detroit hotel industry ramps up capacity to support demand growth

The Detroit lodging industry is preparing to increase its room supply over the next few years, including at least 5,000 new rooms planned in the city's downtown area, according to The Detroit News. Hotel executives are looking to capitalize on the booming convention business and continued high occupancy levels even with the addition of 1,850 rooms just five years ago. The Detroit Metro Convention and Visitors Bureau, predicts the number of room nights sold to conventions this year will reach 280,000, up 20% from a year ago.
