New hotel planned near L.A. convention center

A 15-story, 139-key hotel with a restaurant is being proposed in Los Angeles. The project is near the planned $1.2 billion renovation of the Los Angeles Convention Center and fits with the city's goal of building 8,000 new hotel rooms near the convention center. Boston casino on schedule to open in June 2019

The $2.5 billion renamed Encore Boston Harbor casino is about 60% complete and on schedule to open in June 2019. The construction director said that about $1 billion has been spent so far on the project. Read the Boston Herald/The Associated Press story here

Florida mall to get a SeaQuest interactive aquarium

A SeaQuest aquarium is scheduled to open in November in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. The attraction will offer visitors interactive experiences with many of its 1,200 animal residents, including feeding them or snorkeling with marine animals such as reef sharks and stingrays. Charlestowne Hotels to update Mass. property

Charlestowne Hotels plans to renovate the 32-room, colonial-style Autumn Inn in Northampton, Mass. The $1.5 million project is expected to update the property's interior and exterior, landscaping and common areas. Read the Hotel Management online story here

Mixed-use development planned in Houston

Grand Bohemian project breaks ground in Charlotte, N.C.

With a flash of silver shovels and a dash of tango music, developers officially broke ground recently on uptown Charlotte's newest luxury hotel, the Grand Bohemian. Located at Trade and Church streets, the $110 million hotel will total 254 rooms, including 32 luxury suites. It's being developed by the Kessler Collection, a boutique operator with nine hotels in cities such as Asheville, Charleston and Savannah, Ga., that are affiliated with Marriott's upscale Autograph Collection. Indiana town wants to bring down old hotel buildings

A northern Indiana town has gone to court in its bid to get a decaying, long-vacant hotel demolished. Attorneys for the Tippecanoe County town of Battle Ground recently sued an Illinois-based investment group and other entities, asking a judge to clear the way for demolition of the former Holiday Inn and Days Inn.
